Course Overview
Beyond the basics of investigating a crime involving a child/ren. Using case vignettes, this 2-day course will explore more advanced techniques, including timelines, technology, evidence, search warrants and resources/networking. This course will allow students to explore the investigative techniques used during actual cases and evaluate and discuss the process used. This course will provide investigators with the specialized skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to investigate crimes against children.
Course Goals
The goals of this course are to provide juvenile investigators with information regarding:
- Available resources which will aid their cases involving crimes against children.
- The role that Children’s Advocacy Centers play in these investigations.
- The pace of juvenile investigations, including when to detain suspects, when to wait, and the consequences of moving either too slow or too fast.
- Evaluations of successful and unsuccessful approaches.
- The role of technology in juvenile investigations.
- Search Warrants.
- Best Evidence practices and obstacles that may be encountered.
- Establishing a network of resources and working with a team to overcome obstacles.
