Course Objective
This FTO seminar is designed to provide experienced police officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to properly and effectively train and evaluate probationary officers in the field and to properly plan, prepare and present instructional material in goal-oriented roll-call and overlap training of both recruit and veteran police officers.
Course Content
  1. Learn to identify key elements of the FTO.
  2. Know the five principles of learning and explain the significance of each principle.
  3. Understand the role of the FTO.
  4. Learn the steps to provide guidance, monitoring and evaluation of the recruit officer.
  5. Identify the methods of instruction and explain the uses, advantages and disadvantages of each method.
  6. Identify the various forms/reports utilized in the field training and evaluation program and explain the use of each form as it applies to the training and evaluation program.
  7. Explain the function of “Standardized Evaluation Guidelines” and demonstrate proficiency in their use through exercises in a controlled training environment.
  8. Understand stress and its effects on the recruit officer.
  9. Comprehend liability of the FTO.
  10. Identify several forms of training aids.
Who Should Attend

Law enforcement training administrators and personnel officers who are responsible for training, supervising and evaluating the performance of recruits.
