Many believe changing demographics are creating implicit bias that affect law enforcement and the communities they serve. Therefore understanding implicit bias and finding ways to create and embrace diversity, inclusion and cultural competency are critical skills to acquire. Participants will get to know each other and understand seminar goals.
- Explore some of the concerns and encounters that confront law
- enforcement and communities they serve
- Learn how cultural conditioning and other toxic deeply embedded social messages help determine implicit biases, assumptions, stereotypes, and behaviors
- Gather cross-cultural team building and diversity skills that will help overcome racial and cultural differences and shape healthier law enforcement, trust and community relationships.
- Develop strategies and personal pledges to build trust and cultural competency in the workplace and community.
James (Agbara) Bryson CEO of New Millennium Institute wants to build trust between law enforcement and communities. Mr. Bryson is an African American who lived in public housing and understands that we all carry baggage full of assumptions, stereotypes and biases. Mr. Bryson wants to promote diversity and cultural competency by conducting training to help build police and community partnerships. And to teach how implicit biases create stereotypes and perceptions of bias-based policing that build barriers, racial and cultural baggage in community and police relationships. This training is an important tool in helping the police and community understand how implicit bias can affect them.
